This regulation directly impacts companies working with materials such as <strong>brass<\/strong>\u2014widely used across industries relying on CNC machining\u2014and brings with it new technical and organizational responsibilities. <\/p><p>Even though the regulation is already in effect, there is an important update: <strong>Italy has signed the <a href=\"https:\/\/unece.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-08\/M366e.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ADR Multilateral Agreement M366<\/a><\/strong>, later joined by countries such as Slovenia. This agreement introduces a <strong>temporary derogation<\/strong> for the transport of lead-containing alloys, valid <strong>until August 31, 2027<\/strong>, and applicable only between signatory countries. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9e56344 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9e56344\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What has changed<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-78669da elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"78669da\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The new thresholds set the lead limit at <strong>0.025% for powders and 0.25% for massive metal<\/strong>. As a result, many alloys previously considered \u201cordinary\u201d are now classified as <strong>UN 3077 \u2013 Class 9 (Environmentally hazardous substance, solid, n.o.s.)<\/strong>, which entails full ADR compliance: transport in equipped vehicles, certified packaging, hazard labeling, staff training, and\u2014depending on the quantities handled\u2014the appointment of an <a href=\"https:\/\/unece.org\/transport\/standards\/transport\/dangerous-goods\/adr-2023-agreement-concerning-international-carriage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ADR Consultant<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p><p>With the Multilateral Agreement M366, alloys classified under UN 3077 may be transported under simplified requirements, provided that:<\/p><ul><li>they are <strong>poorly soluble in water<\/strong>, with supporting technical-scientific documentation or analytical tests<\/li><li>they are packed in <strong>dust-tight, water-resistant containers<\/strong>, or transported in bulk under <strong>VC1\/VC2<\/strong> codes<\/li><li>a <strong>copy of the agreement is carried on board<\/strong> the transport vehicle.<\/li><\/ul><p> <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cf9ee25 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"cf9ee25\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What this means for the CNC machining sector<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1e61ad5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1e61ad5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This derogation does not remove the obligations, but it does give companies some breathing space to adapt gradually, without disrupting logistics and operations. To effectively address this regulatory and technical challenge, it is still essential to: <\/p><ul><li><strong>Review alloys in use:<\/strong> verify lead content and, where feasible, switch to low-lead alternatives.<\/li><li><strong>Upgrade machines and accessories<\/strong>: ensure equipment can handle less malleable materials without compromising precision and tolerances.
